ARTIST STATEMENT

Innocent Bystander Series

The Innocent Bystander Series began in 2016. The horror of a destructive, malevolent force becoming the most powerful person on the planet was coming into full view. I was not sure how to act or react.

The series guidelines were:

1.    Refer to books in the images. Books can impart knowledge and empathy beyond one’s immediate circle of awareness. This is typically considered a good thing.

2.    The surface for the applied paint is the inside of a book cover.

3.    Include the horse as a symbol for the innocent bystander in a world shaped by the actions of humans.
